Protect your iphone with insurance

Many people naturally think about protecting their iphone shortly after purchasing it. Yet to really protect your iphone you may need to think about insurance.

Protection and use

The first thought about protection may cover things like securing it to your person when out, buying a cover and perhaps leaving it at home if you’re going out to a risky location or venue.

Sensible as all those precautions may be in certain circumstances, they’re really only a partial answer.

The reality is that your iphone isn’t really serving you if it’s being left at home all the time, locked up and safe.

It is a phenomenally powerful device but it needs to be used to get any benefit from it!

The risks

However careful you are, if you’re using your iphone then there is always the chance that it may be:

  • lost;
  • stolen;
  • accidentally damaged;
  • unusable due to breakdown outside of the manufacturer’s warranty period.

That’s a pretty grim list but it doesn’t end there.

The inconvenience of being without your iphone may be significant and replacing it typically won’t come cheap.

To protect your iphone through insurance

Depending on your gadget insurance provider, it is possible to insure your iphone against some or even all the above risks.

There are policies available that will typically offer you a 48-hour replacement after claim approval, should any of the above disasters strike.

Note that cover against loss may be available as an extra option rather than within the standard basic insurance cover.

Some policies may also offer very useful additional benefits such as protecting you against the infuriating costs of unauthorised calls made on your phone after it has been stolen and free contact list backup.

Keep in mind

Any insurance policy is, in effect, a contract between you and the insurance provider.

Through the terms and conditions, the provider will state what your side of the contact entails by way of your obligation to protect your iphone.

So you may find that:

  • if your iphone is stolen, you must notify the police within 24 hours and obtain a crime number;
  • accidental damage means exactly that – if you break the phone will trying to fix it, enhance it or fit accessories, your insurance will typically not pay up;
  • some policies may cover liquid damage and some may not – it’s worth checking;
  • you may be required not to leave your phone unattended;
  • if the theft arises from a burglary at your home, you may need to be able to show evidence of forced entry.

So, with a little common sense and an iphone insurance policy, you may be able to really protect your iphone.
