Looking into insurance for iphones
Insurance for iphones may not be something that you have ever considered before. However, given that your phone is an expensive piece of kit that you are likely to use countless times a day, you may wish to consider getting some iphone insurance cover.
The financial side of things
Insurance for iphones is available from a range of different providers, and you may find that shopping around may result in the most affordable option for you.
You should note that exclusions and limitations will generally apply and terms and conditions as well as price will vary from provider to provider. Therefore, it is important to always ensure that you are buying the cover that is most suitable for your needs.
If you have other pieces of valuable electrical equipment that you wish to insure (for example, a laptop, camera, ipod), competitive deals may be available for gadget insurance to cover a number of items under the same policy.
It is difficult to say how much iphone insurance typically costs as providers offer different levels of cover at different costs. Some providers offer a month or so worth of cover free of charge as an incentive for you to sign up to their deal.
Some phone insurers typically charge an upfront premium for a year’s cover, although some may offer a longer fixed period to mirror the period of time for which you are locked into a contract with your mobile phone network.
If you are not comfortable with finding enough money to cover the premium in one go, you may wish to spread the cost of it monthly by direct debit. There are insurers on the market who offer insurance for phones for as little as £10 per month (as at April 2010).
What cover might you actually get?
When looking around for insurance for iphones you may find that the list of risks covered varies from provider to provider. A typical policy may extend to the following risks:
- accidental damage;
- theft; and
- breakdown cover (after the manufacturers warranty has expired).
If your phone is accidentally damaged
Making a claim for something you have accidentally done yourself can be embarrassing, but the companies who offer insurance for phones are used to dealing with this sort of thing.
Note that for damage caused by liquids will not always be insured; some providers offer cover for this eventuality, where as others specifically exclude it from the cover they offer.
What if your iphone is stolen?
If your phone has been stolen, you may find that your insurer would only pay out if you could provide evidence that the place the phone was kept had been broken into and you would need to report it to the Police within a certain period of time.
When will you get your phone back?
It is difficult to say with any certainty when your phone would be returned or replaced after making a claim. However, some providers of insurance for iphones appreciate that you may need or want your phone back as soon as possible, and get it delivered to you within 48 hours of a successful claim.
