How to protect your iphone
You probably recognise that your iphone is an expensive object. You may also wish to protect your iphone – but the question is, how?
It is a dangerous world for an iphone
Anything that small is at risk of being accidentally broken if it is sat or trodden on, or if it is dropped.
Then, of course, there are those people that find it impossible to grasp the concept of ownership and theft. Some of them may enjoy nothing more than to make a quick and entirely illegal property transfer from you to their own pocket or purse.
Finally, an iphone is an electronic object. There is always the risk of a breakdown that may possibly be expensive to put right if it happens outside of the manufacturer’s warranty.
Protection of your iphone
So, if it is a dangerous world, what can you do about it?
To protect your iphone you could:
- lock it up securely;
- never use it;
- never take it out with you;
- etc.
This though, may rather defeat the objective of having one in the first place!
Insurance for iphones
If your iphone suffers any of the above mishaps, then the impact probably arises in three areas:
- a loss of data/files/images held on it;
- the inconvenience of being without it;
- the cost of replacing it.
To protect your iphone against the first of these typically requires nothing more than good self-discipline and the use of a number of tools and services for storing your data in a second backup location such as the internet or a disk etc.
And also note that some iphone insurance providers offer free address-book backup facilities so that if something happens to your phone, you will not lose those all important contact details.
There are policies available that can provide cover for all or some of these things plus more. They may, for example, be able to replace your iphone in less than 48 hours of a successful claim or pay for its repair if it stops working once the warranty has expired.
Do note that an excess will typically apply in the event of a successful claim.
Insurance costs money
Yes, it does – but that is only part of the equation.
It will typically also cost you a great deal of money if you have to go out and pay for a replacement iphone out of your own pocket without the help of insurance behind you.
In reality, you cannot guarantee to protect your iphone from theft or harm. What you may be able to do is to protect yourself from the financial and personal consequences of suddenly finding yourself without your iphone. That is what iphone insurance is all about.
